Our membership is currently closed. We are taking this time to regroup from the busy holiday crafting season and define our goals for 2008. Please keep checking back. Membership will be open again in the near future.
If you are a crafter, artist or designer who makes and sells high quality items and are interested in joining this dynamic group we would like to talk to you. Look over our website and get to know us. If you feel like you might be a good fit send us an application.
The following is a list of faq and things to know about membership.
Our mission
To form a group of independent Burlington crafters with small businesses who are looking for support, inspiration and cross-promotion. We also want to support the indie craft, DIY movement, and get more people to buy handmade!
Membership requirements
To be considered for membership you must :
* Be a Burlington resident.
* Be a professional crafter! A commitment to making high-quality crafty goods is important. It doesn’t matter if you do it full or part time, but you must treat your craft as a business.
* Have a functional website (Etsy shop is ok as long as it is stocked with product and updated) where you show photos, and sell and/or market your work. Your web presence must be well maintained and updated regularly.
* You must be committed to the promotion of your business and the Burlington Craft Mafia, as well as the larger Craft Mafia family. Regular participation, meetings , email/group discussion, shared responsibility and involvement are mandatory. To make email communication easier on everyone, we ask that you join the BCM yahoo group and the main Craft Mafia yahoo group.
* Pay dues. The yearly fee to join is $50.00. This covers the cost to our local group for website fees and promotional materials and the $200.00 annual fee we pay to the main Craft Mafia organization to finance advertising, web maintenance and operation costs.
* Understand that we reserve the right to take away your membership if you don’t continue to craft by these rules.
What can the Burlington Craft Mafia do for me?
* We’ll ask you to send us your bio, a photo, and a link to your web store or site, and we’ll add you to the BCM site. You’ll also be able to join the Craft Mafia webring.
* We will hold monthly meetings for expertise and resource sharing, and for planning group events.
* We can help you with website design and set-up, small business networking, and promotion. We also have lots of information about craft fairs and shows big and small. And of course, you’ll be part of events featuring all of our member’s amazing creations!
* In addition, you’ll be a representative of the nationally recongnized CraftMafia, and benefit from their large-scale advertising.
